Japanese students pressure日本学生的压力

    本文选自《初中英语阅读理解与完形填空精讲精练》中考分册，彭进主编，外语教学与研究出版社2010年版。主要讲了日本学生的压力。日本教育界只重视学生的考试结果却不注重其他技能的培养，导致有些学生厌学、弃学。《学生双语报》（宁波中考专版）的试题也用到这篇文章。

    As it is reported, a number of students killed themselves. Others try to get the feelings of taking drugs. Some join the groups of trouble-makers and turn to crime. Many of them have tried very hard at school but have failed in the exams and have their parents lose hopes. Such students feel that they are hated by everyone else they meet and they don't want to go to school any longer. They become dropouts.

    It is surprising that though most Japanese parents are worried about their children, they do not help them in any way. Many parents feel that they are not able to help their children and that is the teachers' work to help their children. To make matters worse, a lot of parents send their children to those schools opening in the evening and on weekends—they only help students to pass the exams and never teach students any real sense of the world. It is a great surprise that almost three-quarters of middle school students have been to such kind of schools.

    Many Japanese school usually have rules about everything from the students' hair to their clothes and the things in their school bags. Child psychologists now think that such strict rules are harmful to the feelings of the students. Almost 40% of the students said that no one had taught them how to get on with others, how to tell right from wrong,  how to show love for others, even for their parents.
